WHEN: Wednesday 8th February, 10am to 12.30pm
Option to stay on for informal lunch (at own expense) at the club.
WHERE: The Chatswood Club, 11 Help St Chatswood
Parking at Westfield Chatswood (enter from Albert St) is free for 3 hours and is a
10 minute walk away. Chatswood railway station and bus interchange is a few
minutes walk.
PURPOSE
To inform and educate members of the horticultural media about the vital issues
involved with contract negotiations. This includes freelancers; publishers and
editors who employ freelancers; and employees who also freelance or may in the
future, or who deal with freelancers in their job.
To provide a forum where all parties to contracts can present their views and
questions to increase understanding and allow free discussion.
This is a free seminar because we believe this is such an important issue.
Non-HMA members are also welcome, and we encourage you to invite colleagues
within your workplace or working acquaintance who may not be members.
SEMINAR OUTLINE
Contracts explained – presented by media lawyer Kate Haddock of Banki
Haddock and Fiore. Covering terminology, basics of copyright, basics of moral
rights, retrospectivity, re-sale to third parties and syndication.
Publishers’ point of view – presented by a representative from NewsLifeMedia.
Freelancers point of view – presented by representative from MEAA, covering
the MEAA model contract.
Putting a value on the written word – some brief but powerful numbers from

The meeting will include the election of office bearers for 2013. Please note that only fully financial members are entitled to vote.
