Principal, Green PR
I am a communications consultant to the nursery and gardening industry as well as being a writer for various industry publications during my career.
After majoring in geography and politics in an Arts degree, I began my career as a radio and television news journalist with the ABC in Adelaide, then moved into public relations. It was in Adelaide I began my association with the gardening industry, taking on the national promotions role for Bedding Plants Australia, the national association of flower and vegetable seedling growers.
For nearly 20 years I was closely associated with the promotion of this gardening sector and successfully launched many Flowers of the Year.
In a move to Sydney in 1990, I began working more closely with the nursery and gardening industry and developed concepts for ‘waterwise’ gardening and Oz Nouveau courtyard gardening, long before they became issues or popular with the public across Australia!
I wrote and edited the regular newsletter for the Nursery and Gardening Industry Australia for several years and also contributed Nursery Papers, looking at topics such as marketing and promotion, and other industry issues. I also wrote feature stories for Australian Horticulture and Australasian Flowers.
For several years I was also the Australian media representative for GLEE, the biggest trade show for the garden industry in Europe, held in Birmingham, UK.
I am now based in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, travelling to Sydney often and through my consultancy I continue to work with clients in the gardening and horticulture industries. Services include all aspects of communications, from writing and editing to event organisation, issues management, marketing and promotions.
While not a trained horticulturalist, I am an enthusiastic gardener – I have to be with five hectares of rainforest and gardens to look after!
