Bernard Chapman

As a sole trader, I run a registered Gardening and Landscaping business under the title Bernard Chapman, Gardener and Landscaper. I do high-end maintenance, consultation and design (soft landscaping).

The Australian Institute of Horticuture : I was a member of The Australian Institute of Horticulture (Inc) from 1991 until 2006. Except for part of one year until 2003, I have been on the NSW State Committee. I have been a Councillor, NSW Newsletter Editor (approx eight years), State President (for eighteen months approx: 2001 - 2003). I have also worked on several subcommittees and helped organize the recent National Conference (2002). I have also been minute secretary for a year, and when required. I was National President from April 2003 - Nov 2005. I also helped organize and run several workshops for AIH. In 2005 I was awarded a Fellowship by AIH.

I am involved in The Australian Open Garden Scheme as a Garden Selector and Owner for around six years. I have also this year (2005) joined the Sydney Regional Committee for The Scheme.

Writing - I am a member of other horticultural organization such as the Horticultural Media Association (NSW), The Garden History Society and The Friends of the Botanic Gardens. 

I have written several articles and information sheets (the latter on gardening for clients). I have written articles for Landscape Outlook, the AIH supplement for Australian Horticulture, several articles doe The Garden Clubs of Australia publication, Our Garden, and also for the AIH e-newsletter. I have also had an article published in The Garden History Society (Sydney) newsletter on an historic Sydney garden.
