The HMAA Laurel Awards are held bi-annually, and we are delighted to announce...
WINNERS OF THE 2009 HMAA LAUREL AWARDS
The winners of the Horticultural Media Association of Australia 2009 Laurel Awards were announced at the Awards Dinner held in Adelaide on Thursday 29th October 2009.
These ‘Laurels' recognise the best performers of Australian Television, Radio, Print and Information Technology in the Horticultural Media over the past 2 years.
Recognises the outstanding achievement of a young writer, photographer, researcher or broadcaster who has shown exceptional promise in communicating the benefits and joys of gardening to the public.
  • Gold Laurel : Hall of Fame
For longstanding contribution to communicating and encouraging a love of gardening to the public.
WINNERS: Judy Horton, Colin Campbell, George Jones.
  • Anita Boucher Young Achievers Award
Recognises the outstanding achievement of a young writer, photographer, researcher or broadcaster who has shown exceptional promise in communicating the benefits and joys of gardening to the public.
WINNER: Millie Ross
  • Paper Laurel - Publications
This Laurel is for an outstanding publication through print or online media that is inspirational and communicates well with its audience.
WINNER: Pacific Magazines - for 'Your Garden Spring 2009 edition'
  • Paper Laurel - Journalism
This Laurel is for an outstanding article that is inspirational and communicates extremely well with its particular audience.
WINNER: Penny Woodward - for "Sensational Salvias"
  • Information Technology Laurel
Outstanding achievement in communicating through a website or CD Rom and is user friendly, innovative and original, have accurate information and good visual appeal.
WINNER: Yates - for 'www.yates .com.au'
  • Image Laurel
Outstanding achievement in communicating through visual means on a single image or series of images or segments, has horticultural significance and is visually very appealing.
WINNER: Chris L. Jones - for Eucalyptus caesia ‘Silver Princess'
  • Book Laurel - Technical
The best book displaying the highest degree of factual, detailed information on a specific topic or range of topics.
WINNER: Penny Woodward for ‘Herbs for Australian Gardens'

The best book written for general garden appeal that is interesting and entertaining with good presentation, accurate, informative and easy to read.
